這餅錄音帶 1987年我錄來學習用, 當我由 Party DJ 新轉做 Club DJ 時,
未熟習新做的 Disco環境, 需要看看我的 新Partner DJ (Deepson aka DJ Sum) 整晚怎樣運作 (佢放假時我替佢),
Beat Mixing 我已經很熟, DJ-ing 是再高一個層次, 打Party同 打Club 又很不同,
仍很多要學, 例如時間控制和舞池人數, 這餅帶有材料可以介紹.

先講一下舞池人數 #DJ_Tips :
由我在現場的細心觀察看到, 簡直係 人與西人並重, 每方比兩三首歌佢地開心下, 舞池人數入多出少, 氣氛很好, "最後一夜" 之後來首 "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now", 人與西人都能保留.

再講講時間控制 #DJ_Tips :
10x BPM 打上 11x BPM 再趺反落 10x BPM 再上過, DJ-ing課題 這款叫做 Riding The Waves Strategy.
每晚一個人打 5小時set, 一個好DJ係一定要用 strategy 分時間段, 21:30 開工係warm-up, 23:30 後先起 勁beat, 00:00 至 01:00 是高潮, 跟著看情況 cool down, 唔cool down 收工後就算停音樂 d客都唔願走 (初初控制得唔好 時常發生, 西人會照坐傾計, 真係做得出), 搵自己來攪! (之後要由 DJ 負責關門)
人就多數很識做, 我開咪say good night, 佢地會 say good bye, 有時會一齊拍掌 say good night 再稱讚下話好玩, 遇到這些客收工大家感覺都 very good!

Note:
比較一般的 Club DJ 可能一晚打 1 set由慢至快 一模一樣 打3次. 懶惰! 又見過有 DJ 由慢打上去快 再由快調轉相同的歌打番落來再重複. Mixing很好但完全沒有高潮!
打Party 2小時set 比較易打, 一味要 沖沖沖, 一開始11x BPM 盡快打上去 13x BPM 再上 14x BPM, high一兩下 時間就已經 o岩 o岩 好到喇!

記得幾年前曾提起過這件趣事,但當時未能找到 這餅開工錄音帶作為 Demo...
請聽聽這個 Mix 中的 Stay 入 Heartache 呢個位, 好正, 但處理有點難度,
因 Heartache 完全沒有beat 但又要融合 Stay 的 bass 一起,
如果現場環境多人 嘈雜聲多很難專心聽準, 處理得唔好就會瞬間由天堂跌落地獄.
這餅開工錄音帶內的是正確作法.
但...

當年我初初正式入行做 Disco DJ 時,
一個星期六 Peterson 師父打長途電話給我話會同班寶麗金錄音師同事過來澳門玩, 就住我做野Disco 那間 Hyatt酒店, 他門會來探我班...
記得當晚如賞開工, 打 Heartache 舞池爆滿,
但當我望見門口 Peterson 師父同幾個人入緊來 (張國榮《拒絕再玩》和《無心睡眠》那位錄音師也來了),
我剛o岩 mixing 中, 就係呢個mixing位,
但我突然感覺 面很熱但對手很僵泠唔聽洗不能動, 完全沒有救 beat反應, 任由d聲亂晒...
舞池一半人走晒 ( 以前d客識聽mixing 架! ),
衰佐係呢個靚mixing 位... 本可以是天堂但跌了落地獄,
Peterson 過來打招呼後找了張台坐了一陣間,
好彩我爭取時間打番行個場, 又好彩星期六比較易攪氣氛!
跟著佢地上返房叫我收工找佢地.
上了寶貴的一課, 反思後學識了 '鎮定', 之後我再遇到 同業DJ來訪 我都沒有手忙腳亂喇!

Description 2 :
Regarding to vinyl turntable and sync,
Please have a listen to the mix with "Boom Boom" and "Never Can Say Goodbye",
You can easily notice that the pitch change of "Boom Boom" just a few bars before the break, manual sync could only took place after that change of pitch,
I still could managed the sync in just a few bars time here because I was actually still synchronizing when the second track was on air.
My hands were moving the pitch control naturally and unconsciously while the track was on air.

#DJ_Tips :
When could one say he/she has already mastered "manual sync" ?
Until his / her hands could move the pitch control naturally / unconsciously to sync to the beat and has confidence to do so even when the second track is on air.

#DJ_Tips :
Once you have mastered "manual sync" please do not hestitate to use the gift of technology, the "automatic sync button" and proceed on other DJ-ing techniques.
Personal experence, I thought I could conquer the world when I mastered this "manual sync" technique but I figured out very soon that there are whole lot more about DJ-ing than sync.
That is why the "No Sync Button" argument is very boring to me.

This mix was recorded live at work, it was not rehearsed and depended on the live situation of the atmosphere.

Latin Freestyle

Latin Freestyle， 80年代在港澳地區比較少聽到的名字，其實它是電子跳舞音樂的其中一種類型（Genre），盛行於80年代美國紐約及邁阿密，舉兩個例子大家便知原來一直都很熟悉的，當年可能只概括地稱為Dance Music。例子有 “Shannon - Let The Music Play” 及 “Cover Girls - Because Of You” 。

Latin Freestyle 一詞中的 Latin 代表美籍拉丁人種(Latinos)尤其指美國出生的義大利人(Italian-American)，Freestyle 我想是在 Hip-hop break beat 底之上可以自由加進其他元素如 Electro, R&B, Post Disco 和Italo Disco及大量使用Drum machine 和sampling。它很適合跳Break Dance，故又稱為 Latin Hip-Hop。

起源於美國紐約的拉丁社區，深受　“Afrika Bambaataa - Planet Rock”影響，個人認為 New York Freestyle 意景比較黑暗，題材很多時都是失戀或對社會的不滿情緒。

由於人種相同以及收音機電台的大力宣傳關係，Freestyle很快便傳到邁阿密，個人認為由於地理、氣候和政治環境有所差異，Miami Freestyle 變得熱情和有陽光活力，題材很多時都是追求愛情或熱戀中的描述，個人感覺 Miami Freestyle 有著 Italo Disco 的優美浪漫，可能是美國對Italo Disco的對應。那時候電台如著名的Power 96更推出很受歡迎的 DJ Mix Live Show, 一般這些Mix Show會將 Miami Freestyle 和 它的近親 Miami Bass (有機會再介紹)　一起打。所以很多時這兩個名字會同時出現。

說幾個我們熟悉的Freestyle Artists 名字：Cover Girls, Exposé, Stevie B, Taylor Dayne, Noel, Information Society, Will To Power, Linear, Nu Shooz, Brenda K. Starr 等等。他們在自己的大碟中也會加入慢歌，例如：Season’s Change, Wishing On A Star, I Still Believe 等，有些更被改編成中文版。不可不提　Stevie B 的　Because I Love You (The Postman Song)　更是美國Billboard No. 1 hit.
Freestyle Love Songs

英國的Artists 也被　Latin Freestyle 的獨特魅力所吸引，紛紛找來美國的Freestyle producers讓他們也玩玩Freestyle。繼 Freeze – I.O.U. 的成功後，Duran Duran有　All She Want Is，New Order 拍著Arthur Baker製作了　Confusion，Pet Shop Boys 又請來　Miami Freestyle producer Lewis Martineé 為他們的歌 Domino Dancing 做監製。

2000年代 Latin Freestyle 曾有回歸之勢，組合The Black Eyed Peas　常用Freestyle 名曲的歌詞，　2007 年　Stevie B 又邀請Pitbull 客串和他一起重唱 Spring Love ，十分成功。

註: 由於美國有 "Disco Sucks!" 運動, Italo Disco 不能直接用其名義 (Italo Disco, Eurodisco, Disco Fox, etc.)進入美國, 我第一次在 美國收音機聽 到 "Gazebo - Masterpiece"時, 那 DJ 歸類它為 Alterantive.
另外, 類似 Modern Talking 風格的歌 美國人會說成是越南 Boat Music.

I have used the dangerous "Chorus mix to Melody" harmonic mix techniques a few times in here. Don't try this unless you're sure the 2 tracks are harmonic otherwise you will encounter a key crash.

DJ Mixing 研究 :
這裡用了幾次 有危險的 "Chorus mix to Melody" (我改的名詞)
之所以有危險因為 如果唔肯定 兩首歌是夾 key 就唔好用呢招,會 key crash 的. 這是 Harmonic Mixing 技巧之一.
唔夾 key 而夾 mood 的兩首歌都可以打, 只是要 剩beat intro 入 剩beat break 便可.
新一代 Digital DJ 就有個方便, 就是可在打碟程式內 硬轉 key.
